This year the programme of professional theatre festival in Birzai – an exceptional experience

This year a festival of professional theatres called “Zaldokynes krastas“ in Birzai is being held for the 18th time already. A conference – commemoration dedicated to famous cultural figure and theatre critic Egmontas Jansonas (1939 – 2007) will take place in the Birzai castle at 5 p.m. on the 14th of March.

The organizers of festival “Zaldokynes krastas“ – at that time the director of Birzai Cultural Centre Jonas Auriukas and a group of local businessmen. Because of their effort the cultural traditions have developed and festival became a well-known, traditional event in the region. This event stands out from other national festivals, because it is highly supported by sponsors – businessmen, individuals and companies.

According to Stase Eitaviciene, the curator and Deputy Mayor of Birzai city, from now on the festival will try to achieve higher and higher proficiency and professionalism by involving educational activities into the festival’s programme. This year during the festival a legendary play “Atzalynas” written by Kazys Binkis and an actor Donatas Banionis, who reached the age of seventy years, were honored with an educational event, led by the historian of Birzai museum Snieguole Kubiliute.
